Common questions
Straight answers about how a drone mapping job works. If yours isn't here, ask us.
How long does a job take?
The flying itself is usually done in a day. Standard turnaround from capture to delivery is two to three business days. A 12-hour urgent turnaround is available at a premium rate.
What do you need from me?
The site address or a map pin, what information you need (volumes, progress, levels or imagery), any design files or existing survey control, your deadline, and any site access or induction requirements.
Is this a survey?
No. Our mapping is for planning, measuring and monitoring. It isn't a cadastral or boundary survey and isn't for set-out. Where you need those, engage a registered surveyor; we're happy to work alongside one.
How accurate will it be?
It depends on the site, the ground cover and the control, so we measure it on every job rather than quote a figure in advance. Each report states the result at independent checkpoints. See how we report accuracy.
Do you fly in any weather?
No. We check the forecast and any airspace notices before every job, and the final call is made on site. If wind, rain or storms are outside the aircraft's limits or would affect the result, we'll agree a new time with you.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. MÒR Mapping holds a CASA Remote Operator Certificate (CASA.ReOC.9785), flights are made by licensed remote pilots, and we carry public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
Can you fly near airports or over people?
Some sites need extra approvals or have limits under CASA rules, especially near airports, in controlled airspace or around people. We check every site before quoting and tell you up front if anything limits the job.
What files will I get?
Depending on the job: orthophotos, elevation models, contours, point clouds, 3D models and a PDF report, in common formats that open in QGIS, CloudCompare and most engineering and CAD software. Tell us what your team uses and we'll match it.
What coordinate system do you use?
For most South East Queensland projects it's GDA2020 / MGA Zone 56, with heights on AHD. Other coordinate systems, height datums and geoid models are available: tell us what your project uses and we'll deliver in it. Every report states the system, the height datum and the geoid model used.
Can you map crop health (NDVI)?
We fly RGB cameras, so our vegetation maps are visible-band indices and are labelled that way; they aren't NDVI. If you need true NDVI or thermal data, tell us and we'll advise on the right sensor.
Can I see the results online?
Yes. Alongside the files, we can share maps and 3D models through a password-protected link you open in a browser, with tools to measure distances, areas and levels.
What area do you cover?
The Sunshine Coast and South East Queensland, from about Gympie to the Gold Coast. Further afield by arrangement.
Is there a cost to talk it through?
No. The first site visit and consultation are free.
